Paper
This includes all newspapers, magazines, household paper, envelopes and junk mail.
Cardboard
Flattened kitchen card and packaging such as cereal boxes and food boxes and corrugated card. Please note, only completely flattened cardboard boxes will be collected. If the boxes are large, please cut them into smaller pieces so that they can fit onto the vehicle.
Engine oil
Place in a secured, upright container that is clearly labelled- a good way to do this is to use the container that the new engine oil came in.
Yellow Pages and telephone directories
This includes mail order catalogues.
Glass jars and bottles
Includes all types of jars and bottles in all colours. We cannot collect broken glass or wine/drinking glasses, sheet glass or Pyrex cookware as they are made from a different type of glass than bottles and containers. If the glass is in good condition, donate them to your local charity shop.
Food tins and drink cans
Includes both steel and aluminium cans. Please rinse these before putting in your green box as they can be really messy and unpleasant for the crews to handle.
Textiles, clothes and shoes
All types of clothes, fabric, curtains and shoes including old, torn, stained or damaged items as they are all sorted into types. Good quality items are resold; poor quality items are used for industrial wipes or shredded and used as stuffing material. Due to hygiene and health reasons, pillows, duvets and blankets cannot be collected.
Place in a carrier bag in your green box to keep clean and dry. No black bags please.
Aluminium foil
Pie dishes, kitchen foil and takeaway meal trays can all be recycled. Please ensure all items are clean before placing in your green box. Some crisp packets and foil drinks are a mixture of both plastic and foil. These cannot be collected as they are difficult to recycle. To check if its foil, do the scrunch test. Scrunch the item up in your hand; if it is foil it is likely to stay scrunched, if it springs back into shape like a crisp packet then it's probably not foil.
Household and car batteries
Place household batteries in a separate bag before putting in your green box. Car batteries can be left beside your box. Please do not leave these on the pavement however, as they pose a hazard to pedestrians.
Aerosols
Includes deodorant, hairspray cans and furniture polish. Please ensure cans are empty before putting them in your box. Spray paints and gas canisters cannot be collected.
