You can now have small electrical items collected every week by placing them next to your recycling box.
The items should be contained completely within an untied supermarket carrier bag for collection. Only one carrier bag will be collected each week.
Which small electrical items can I recycle?
You can recycle a wide range of electrical items including irons, toasters, chargers, clocks and kettles, as long as the items can fit into one supermarket carrier bag.
My electrical item is run on batteries, is this OK to put out for collection?
Yes, any device which is powered by batteries can be put in your supermarket carrier bag for collection. This can include a cassette player or a remote control.
My electrical item has a plug attached to it, is this still OK to be put out for collection?
Yes, any electrical item that has a plug attached can be placed inside your supermarket carrier bag for collection.
My items don’t fit into a supermarket carrier bag is this still OK to put out for collection?
No, the electrical item or items must fit into a supermarket carrier bag for collection, otherwise the collection operatives will not take them. Unfortunately we cannot take larger electrical items as the vehicle does not have capacity to take them. Large electrical items can be taken to Space Waye, Re use and Recycling Centre, North Feltham Trading Estate, Pier Road, TW14 0TH.
Do I have to tie the handles of my supermarket carrier bag?
No, please leave the handles untied for collection.
Do I need to remove any non electrical attachments?
Yes, please ensure any removable attachments are removed for example a nozzle from a hair dryer or a coffee filter from a coffee machine. This also includes batteries which can be put in the green box for collection.
What should I do with the attachments that are removed?
Any attachments that are removed will need to be put in your black sack for collection; unless the material is recyclable (for example batteries can go in your recycling box).
What if my small electrical items are still working?
If your electrical items are still working they can still be put out for collection in a supermarket carrier bag as all of the items are recycled.
Reuse your electrical items
If your electrical item is still in good working order you can post it online at Freecycle, or you can contact the furniture project or arrange a Tidy Town collection for the electrical items to be collected.
