There are generally three types of pest control services available:
direct pest control services - visiting clients in their premises to deal with infestations
enforcement services - where the occupier or owner has failed to make their own arrangements
advisory service - other pest control matters
Direct pest control services
Available for:
rats
mice
squirrels (in roof spaces)
fleas
bedbugs
cockroaches
pharaoh ants
wasps
Contract services are also available to businesses.
Enforcement services
We will investigate reports of infestations arising at other locations where there is a public health issue (with some exceptions such as food premises which are dealt with by environmental health officers).
Appropriate enforcement powers are used, if necessary, to resolve these matters. Examples might include reports of rats or mice in a neighbour’s garden, or mosquitoes from the local sewage works.
Advisory service
Available for:
foxes
pigeons
insect identification
most other household pest problems
Insect identification
Insects should be brought to the Civic Centre or Bridge Road Offices or posted to us. Insects can be alive but are preferred to be dead and in a dry, crush-proof container - please do not submit them in water or attached to sticky tape. Routine identifications will generally take up to three working days. It will take longer if we need to send them on to a specialist.
What's not offered
control of textile moths
squirrels outside of the house
pigeon proofing (the application of devices or substances to prevent pigeons from sitting on buildings)
control of woodworm or other wood-boring pests
structural work including lifting floorboards or heavy manhole covers
repair work to a property
Charges
The control of rats is a free service to residents.
The control of mice, cockroaches, fleas and bedbugs in residential properties is chargeable. However, householders on certain benefits may qualify for free treatment.
All other services in residential properties are chargeable including squirrels, wasps, garden ants etc.
All services to business or commercial users are chargeable.
See our charges sheet available to download on this page.
Council tenants
There are no arrangements in place for Hounslow Homes to automatically fund the treatment of pests in their tenants' properties. Tenants will therefore be asked to pay for applicable services along with everyone else.
Arranging an appointment
Contact us and we will arrange an appointment slot for you so that you do not have to wait in all day. Unfortunately there may be a wait for the next available appointment, especially during the summer when the service is very busy. Urgent calls are prioritised as far as possible.
