Stray dogs found on public land or detained by a member of the public will be collected during the working day.
Stray dogs are returned to the owner if they can be identified, either by their collar and tag or if they are micro-chipped. The owner of the dog will have to pay the government-set fee for the dog to be returned. If a dog cannot be identified then it is taken to Battersea Dogs Home where it will remain for 7 days to be reclaimed. After 7 days it will become the property of Battersea Dogs Home to be rehomed.
If you find a stray dog you must either:
return the dog to the owner
contact the council to collect the dog
When reporting a stray the following information would be useful:
name, address and telephone number
dog’s breed, colour, size, distinguishing marks, sex and collar details
time and date the dog was seen straying
location of the dog
