Animal-related nuisances

We investigate any allegations of statutory nuisance arising from the keeping of domestic animals, such as noise (barking, howling or whining dogs, noisy cockerels) or smells.

Report any animal-related problems to us with details of the address where it is occurring with times and dates and if possible the owners details.

Providing we have enough information, we will send a letter to the person allegedly responsible for the animal causing the nuisance to let them know that this behaviour has caused a complaint to be made.

If you leave your details you will also receive a leaflet, which includes a detachable diary or log sheet for you to record when you consider, the enjoyment of your property is seriously affected by the animal related nuisance.  We do not divulge who has made the complaint but the perpetrator might make an educated guess.

Dangerous dogs

We enforce all laws relating to dangerous dogs and will investigate any reports received by the public.

It is an offence to allow any dog to be dangerous or out of control in a public place.  A dog does not have to bite someone to be deemed to be dangerous.

If a dog in a public place attacks a person or animal then it should be reported to the local police as soon as possible.

The law requires that every dog must wear a collar and identification tag whenever it is in a public place and we enforce this.
