Conservation area character appraisal statements

All 26 existing conservation areas in the borough have conservation area character appraisal statements, all of which were discussed and approved by their area planning committees in January 2006.

These statements are basic descriptions of the history and character of the areas as they are now, and include what has happened since the areas were originally designated.

The intention, as endorsed by the sustainable development committee, is to illustrate and explain the important aspects of each conservation area and use this as the basis for community engagement.

More documents are available for download to the right of this page.

A programme for the conservation area consultations is about to begin, and will lead to conservation area management plans being developed which will guide applicants and council policy, and help each conservation area to have a strong background of public support.
