In July 2009 along with the local NHS, we made a joint bid to the government to become a pathfinder to look into the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people in the borough.
Our bid, which looked at how it was being met and how we can improve, was successful.
We will now be starting a number of projects, which will focus on the two following areas:
support for speech, language and communication needs in mainstream and special schools
support for parents and carers of children with speech, language and communication needs
Our next step is to evaluate and report back on the progress of these projects in March 2011.
Please note: these web pages will be updated regularly to keep you informed.

You can also view the draft action plan we have drawn up in response to it.
Phase 2 Research
This has now been completed and the report will be published shortly. As part of this research a website with the key relevant data has been published. Please see the link on the right-hand side to access the Hounslow Language and Communication Data website.
Films with top tips for parents and early years practitioners
We secured additional grant funding to produce some short films with top speech and language tips for parents and early years practitioners.
We carried out a survey of speech and language professionals in Hounslow to ask them for their top tips. To see the results, see right of this page under documents for download.
If you want to find out more about the project, download the pathfinder project description document, on the right of this page under documents for download.
