How do schools get Capital Funding?
Capital funding is available from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and can be used to build new school premises, to re-build a school, for buildings repair and maintenance and for extensions or modernisation work.
There are a number of different types of capital funding available from the DCSF. Most capital funding is now allocated to schools and Local Authorities (LAs) by needs-related formulae, so that they can decide how it can be invested. This includes Modernisation, School Access Initiative and Devolved Formula Capital Funding, which is allocated to every school. LAs can normally make bids for additional funding for support under the Targeted Capital Fund.
