All applications for help with transport costs are considered on their individual merits.
In making a decision whether to help with transport costs, we will consider all relevant circumstances and exceptional factors.
In general, a bus pass is only provided if:
The distance between home and school is more than three miles, measured by the shortest walking route and
Your child's school is the nearest suitable maintained school of its type (either community or voluntary aided of a particular religion/denomination) with a place available.
In order to qualify for help with transport costs we would expect you to make a first preference application to the nearest school of its type to your home. However, this is only a summary of our policy on home to school transport.

If you are refused financial assistance and you believe that our decision is wrong, you can appeal. Your appeal will be dealt with by a senior officer and you will receive a response within 10 working days.
