Nursery schools

In Hounslow primary schools, children can take up a free, part-time place in a nursery class in the September after a child’s third birthday.

Children born between 1 September 2006 and 31 August 2007 can be admitted to a nursery class attached to a primary school in September 2010.

All Hounslow Infant and Primary schools have nursery classes. Enquiries and applications should be made directly to the school, and the school will be able to provide you with an application form.

On this page you can download the Starting nursery school in Hounslow booklet. Applications will be considered according to the admission criteria outlined in the booklet, and offers will be made up to the number of places available at each school. You will also find the name and contact details of every primary school in the borough within this booklet, as well as the location of each school on a map of Hounslow.

Children attend school nursery classes for five half days each week in term time, either five mornings or five afternoons, depending on the organisation of each school. For a few children in exceptional circumstances full-time nursery attendance can be arranged at the Headteacher’s discretion. Children cannot be admitted to nursery classes in Hounslow schools before the school year in which they reach the age of four.

Education in a school nursery is not compulsory and the places available are a benefit to residents in the London Borough of Hounslow. However, it may not be possible for every parent to secure a place in a school nursery for their child. Indeed, some parents who are already using childcare such as a private day nursery or playgroup, may prefer to keep their child in the provision where they are settled, until the child starts reception in the following September.

There is government funding available which entitles 3 and 4 year olds to 12.5 hours of early education, either at a school nursery or with a private provider, such as a private day nursery or a pre-school playgroup. This is known as the Early Education Entitlement . Please click on the link for more information.
