The Parent Partnership Service (PPS) provides parents with a range of services which enables them to be better informed about special educational needs (SEN) procedures and provision, enabling parents to play a more active role in their child's education.
The service offers independent advice, guidance and support to parents whose children have special educational needs. Support is given to parents with pre-school children, school aged children and children and young people in further education.
The service is here to support parents and give them information and advice on:
statutory assessements
statements of special educational needs
exclusions
inclusion
if a parent feels that their child's needs are not being met
bullying
changing or choosing a school
tribunals and mediation
letter writing
understanding reports
supporting parents at meetings and reviews
supporting parents at visiting schools
The PPS operates a strict confidentiality policy and any information given by parents is only accessible to PPS staff unless explicit permission is given by parents to share information with other professionals.
The PPS will always remain impartial and will never make decisions for parents/carers, the service will never take sides between the local authority, schools or parents. The aim of the service is to provide parents with the support and information they need in order to be able to play an active and informed role when it comes to their child's education and be involved in all the decision making processes.
The PPS is a self-referral service and will normally only take referrals from parents who contact the service directly. On occasions the service will contact a parent if asked to do so by another professional but only if the parent has given their permission to be contacted but for some reason do not feel able to contact the service directly themselves.
