Hounslow Council

Child work permits

The law requires local authorities to enforce the regulation of child employment.

All children aged 13 or over

  • who are of compulsory school age

  • who have paid part-time employment

  • who work on non-school days

are required to have a work permit by law.

This is the case even if they are working for their parents.

Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to work.

In agreement with the child and parent, the employer is required to submit a child employment application form to us within the first five days of employment.

The form is designed to help regulate the protection, health, safety and welfare of children.

Download the application form on this page or contact us to arrange for a copy of the form to be sent to you.

Employers who employ children and do not apply for a work permit are breaking the law and may be prosecuted.
