If you are on certain benefits and have children in schools maintained by us, you may be able to claim for free school meals.
If you have children in a school which is not maintained by us, you should ask the school how to apply for free school meals.
Your children are entitled to free school meals if you are:
in receipt of Income Support
in receipt of Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
in receipt of a Child Tax Credit, but not entitled to a Working Tax Credit and
have an annual income (as assessed by the Inland Revenue) of no more than £14,495
being supported by the National Asylum Support Service (NASS)
being supported by a local authority Social Services Asylum Team (SSAT)
How to apply
You must complete an application form and provide us with proof that you are in receipt of one of the above.
Proof required:
You must provide us with proof that you are in receipt of one of the above forms of income or support. The proof must state your name, address and the type of income or support you receive and must be no more than one month old
If you are in receipt of a Child Tax Credit, we must see your current Tax Credit Award notice (form TC602), which was sent to you by the Inland Revenue
We must see original documents as proof of income, we cannot accept photocopies
Applications for free school meals cannot be backdated
