Hounslow Council

Pre-schools

There are 60 primary schools in Hounslow, 30 of which provide the full range of primary education for children aged 5-11.

Of these, 15 provide separate, but closely linked, pre-school education for children who are four and under. All primary schools follow the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies, and seek to ensure that pupils receive a ful and balanced education.

Hounslow pre-schools are housed in purpose-built accommodation and are fully resourced to cope with our youngest children. Classes are attended by both qualified teachers and pre-school nurses, with early years education geared towards enabling all pupils to achieve the learning outcomes set out by the government.

Attendance

Provided that there are place available, children may attend a pre-school from the September following their third birthday. Attendance at pre-school classes is on a part-time basis, either mornings or afternoons depending upon how the individual school is organised. Under exceptional circumstances, full-time nursery attendance may be arranged for certain pupils at the Headteacher's discretion.

All primary schools can admit children from pre-school to the Reception Year group of the infant department on a full time basis in the September following their fourth birthday. Thereafter, children transfer from the infant to junior stage of their primary education as they enter Year 3 in the September following their seventh birthday.
