Hounslow Council

Elections - electoral register

We are responsible for maintaining a register of all residents in the borough who are able to vote in some or all elections. This is called the register of electors.

The register determines who may vote. If your name, or the name of anyone in your household, does not appear in the register you will not be able to vote. The register is updated throughout the year as residents come and go, but once every year we ask all residents to check that the information on the register is correct and to confirm that by filling in a registration form, telephoning or using the internet to register.

Failure to complete and return this form or to respond by telephone or internet is a criminal offence, which, in addition to the possible imposition of a fine, may lead to the removal of your name from the register.

This would mean you would be unable to vote and may affect any future applications you make for mortgages or credit facilities.

Registering for other council services or paying council tax does not register you to vote. It is therefore essential that you complete the form or, if the details contained on it are correct, use the freephone telephone or internet service to register.

Full register

This lists everyone who is entitled to vote. You are able to view this register (under supervision) in the electoral services office at the Civic Centre.  Only certain people and organisations can have copies of the full register, and they can only use it for specific purposes.

Edited register

This register leaves out the names and addresses of people who have asked for their details to be excluded from this version of the register.  This register can be bought by anyone who asks for a copy and they may use it for any purpose.  The edited version of the register can be viewed at any library in Hounslow.
