Tallow Road – removing traffic lights

This consultation is now closed - thank you for your feedback.

We are proposing to remove the traffic lights at the Tallow Road and High Street junction before resurfacing Brentford High Street takes place in March.

Resurfacing will be from Commerce Road (Holiday Inn) to Wilkes Road/Goat Wharf (Premier Inn).

We also want to move the zebra crossing to the other side of Augustus Close.

Removing the traffic lights

As recommended by the Mayor of London, we’ve identified some traffic lights and crossings that do not benefit road users and pedestrians.

We are proposing to remove the lights, including the traffic islands in the road and the dropped kerbs, before resurfacing takes place.

We believe the lights contribute to traffic delays, while the islands can be hazardous for cyclists. The pelican crossing, near the former Magistrates Court will remain and this can help anyone those looking to cross the High Street at this point.

Moving the zebra crossing

Moving the existing zebra crossing would also help pedestrians crossing the High Street, particularly those walking to and from Brentford Dock and heading north of the High Street, to Brentford Station for example.

Your views are important and will affect the decisions we make.

In January 2012 we asked for your feedback. We will make a decision in mid-February. If the decision is to proceed with the work, it will be done in early March, alongside the resurfacing.
