Hounslow Highways, our new streets maintenance contractor, is soon to start work improving our roads and pavements.
As part of this programme it is likely that the footpath on the northern side of Snakey Lane will be renewed early in 2013.
Given the nature of the vehicles using this road, traffic flows and traffic speeds, we feel it would be desirable to provide an off-road facility for bicycles which would be combined with the northern pavement. This is known as a shared use path.
This would mean widening the existing pavement to 3m (or to a minimum of 2.5m where space is limited by mature trees etc) and some improvements at the eastern and western ends (junctions with Felthambrook Way and Sunbury Road respectively) to allow cyclists using the shared use path to rejoin the road.
There would be no restrictions on any existing accesses to properties and all attempts would be made to keep the existing trees and shrubs.
By completing this improvement at the same time as pavement maintenance undertaken by Hounslow Highways we can reduce both disruption and cost.
An outline design plan is available to download from this page.
The scheme will be presented for discussion and decision at the next meeting of the West Area Forum on 22 November, held at Feltham library from 7.30pm.
