Proposed Changes to Traffic Management and Parking

Proposed Changes to Traffic Management and Parking

The proposed changes to the streets and traffic management are set out in the plan which can be downloaded from the right of this page in PDF format with each proposed change individually numbered (1-65) for ease of reference.

Other Options

Options 1-5 as set out in the May/June consultation are either unworkable or do not offer the full range of benefits that derive from the proposed scheme. However, three variants to Option 6 have been identified:

  • Southbound route 391 may use Town Hall Avenue instead of Sutton Lane North. This would acknowledge the fact that Sutton Lane North is quite narrow. Running southbound route 391 via Town Hall Avenue would marginally increase congestion at the junction of Heathfield Terrace and Sutton Court Road.

  • Some local residents have been in discussion with the Council and London Buses to request that northbound route E3 turns right at the top of Sutton Court Road and runs via Heathfield Terrace (east) instead of Sutton Lane North. The Council and London Buses do not currently favour this variant as the E3 picks up passengers from surrounding streets at the top of Sutton Lane North and serves the stop on Chiswick High Road at Essex Place Square where Sainsbury's and other shoppers are picked up (to go north of Chiswick High Road) and set down (from south of Chiswick High Road.)

  • In the event that route 27 cannot be extended to Chiswick Business Park by mid 2009, an option would be to relocate its terminus to the site of the current taxi stand and pay & display area on Heathfield Terrace south of the War Memorial, on a temporary basis. Buses would access this stand via Chiswick High Road, Town Hall Avenue and Heathfield Terrace, avoiding Sutton Lane North.

The Council is interested in residents, views on these variants as well as the substantive scheme.
