The aim of the scheme is to improve the area for cyclists, pedestrians and to provide a safer road environment for all road users.
The proposal shown on the attached plan includes the following elements:
Road widening to provide sufficient width for a 1.5m wide cycle lane through the junction on the northbound side
Road widening on the northbound exit of the junction to allow for a safer merge of traffic
Widening of the pavement on the eastern side to provide a minimum pavement width of 2.4m
Widen and straighten the pedestrian crossing across Twickenham Road on the southern arm. Reconstruct and widen the central traffic island
Change the lane allocations on the southbound approach to provide for one ahead and left turn lane and one right-turn only lane
Rationalisation of the existing street furniture by removing any redundant items
