Hounslow Council

Proposed cycle route improvements – Brentford High Street

This consultation is now closed - thank you for your feedback.

Ealing Road to Half Acre

We are working with Transport for London to design a cycle superhighway through the borough, between the Hammersmith & Fulham boundary and Hounslow town centre, via the A315 High Street, Brentford.

The cycle superhighway will provide a fast, safe and direct cycling route between Hyde Park Corner and Hounslow town centre, and will be funded by Transport for London.  The majority of the works to provide this superhighway will take place in the first half of 2013.  This includes the installation of blue surfacing on 1.5 metre wide cycle lanes, and blue logos in the existing bus lanes and where there is insufficient road space to provide cycle lanes.

In advance of the superhighway, we are working to improve cycling conditions along the High Street.

A major improvement scheme at the junction of High Street and Ealing Road is nearing completion, and the carriageway will be resurfaced here in July 2011 and new cycle lanes will be installed, in preparation for the blue surface in 2013.

The section of the cycle superhighway route between Wilkes Road and Brentford Bridge is in poor condition, and the carriageway will be resurfaced in September/October 2011, after all the current Thames Water mains replacement work has been completed.   We want to reconfigure this section of the High Street, where necessary, over the next few months in preparation for the cycle superhighway.  If possible, this work will be undertaken before the resurfacing takes place, in order to avoid disturbing the new carriageway surface at a later date.

We  therefore consulted on proposals for improvements to the section of the High Street between Wilkes Road and Half Acre.

The proposals include changes and improvements to:

  • Road and pavement widths

  • Raised entry treatments

  • Pedestrian crossings

  • Bus stops

  • Waiting and loading restrictions

  • Loading provision for goods vehicles and other vehicles

An initial consultation, on the proposals described in our letter of 26 May, closed on 24 June.  Several responses were received, expressing concern about a proposed pay & display bay on the north side of the High Street adjacent to Waterman’s Court.  As a result, a new consultation letter and plan were issued on 21 June, closing on 11 July.

The initial and new consultation letter and plans are available for download from this page.

This consultation closed on Monday 11 July.

We will also shortly be consulting on proposals for the section of the High Street between Tallow Road and Brentford Bridge.
