As part of the TfL funded Biking Borough programme, with the help of local cyclists, we have identified a number of small changes that could be made to our streets which would help make cyclists’ journeys safer, quicker or more comfortable.
One of the schemes identified is the need to provide for a formal route for cyclists passing from St Johns Road into the rear of the car park of Isleworth station, and then through onto London Road. This improves access to the station for cyclists coming from the south. It also allows onward heading cyclist to avoid the London Road/St Johns Road junction should they wish.
In summary, we are looking to build a new segregated cycle track across the existing planted area at the southern end of the station, parallel to (but physically separated from) the existing pavement into St Johns Road.
At the point where this new cycle track joins St Johns Road, a small section of pavement will be made into shared use, to allow cyclists to rejoin the road at this point. This will require some tactile paving to be introduced. Bollards would prevent this section being accessible by other vehicles. Appropriate on-road signage may also be introduced to highlight the facility to cyclists on St Johns Road and on London Road.
In September 2011 we invited you to have your say on the proposals. The results from this consultation will be reported back to ward councillors and to South West Trains (who manage this land on behalf of Network Rail) who will make a decision on whether to proceed with this proposal or not.
