In 2009, Crane Park, which bridges Hounslow and Richmond, was among 10 parks across the capital to receive a share in a £6m pot of cash, to transform it into one of London’s top parks.

In January 2010 we asked residents to help plan for the future for the park.

Work has now started on the transformation and will continue until December 2011.

Crane Park received more votes than any other nominee in the competition, accruing 6,677 – 1,306 more votes than its closest rival in the south-west region.  The grant will help to enhance the park for residents of both boroughs including new footpaths, cycle routes, and improved entrances.

Cllr Becky Stewart, the council's then executive member for leisure, said: “Winning the competition was not only great news for Crane Park, but also for the residents of both Hounslow and Richmond.

“This project is a chance for all residents to get involved and let us know what they want to see in the park, to enable us to progress this wonderful area and attract more use of the open space.

Crane Valley Park is a cross-borough park which includes a variety of largely council-owned green spaces in the Crane Valley. This project focuses on the stretch from Craneford Field in Twickenham to Pevensey Road Nature Reserve, in the boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow.

The application for Crane Park was jointly submitted with Richmond Council, and included input from Friends of River Crane Environment (FORCE).
