The London Borough of Hounslow proposes to implement a bus priority and cycling improvement scheme on London Road, between Syon Lane and Brent Lea.
Scheme summary
The scheme involves installing a city-bound bus lane, mainly within the available carriageway width by adjusting the lane markings and pedestrian refuges, with minor carriageway widening between Rowan Road and Brent Lea. This will reduce delays to passengers on route 235, 237 and 267 buses. Improvements for cyclists and pedestrians also feature in the scheme.
The scheme will be fully funded by Transport for London.
Scheme details
The proposed scheme comprises the following elements:
A 500m eastbound bus lane commencing immediately east of Syon Lane and ending 60 metres before the Commerce Road junction. The bus lane will operate at all times.
Strengthening of loading/waiting restrictions to at-all-times except in existing bays and designated footway parking.
Two new pedestrian refuges and two reconfigured refuges.
Removal of one existing refuge.
Minor carriageway widening on the north side of London Road east of Rowan Road through to the end of the bus lane.
Minor carriageway widening on the south side of London Road at the Brent Lea shops.
Widening of the existing toucan crossing at Brent Lea.
A 1.2 metre wide westbound cycle lane with green surface.
Bus stops extended and in one case relocated.
Raised entry treatments across side roads, and minor kerb realignment at several junctions.
Resurfacing of the carriageway.
Repaving of the footway at the Brent Lea shops.
It may be necessary to remove one small tree, and if so this would be replaced nearby.
