The council is facing some tough decisions as we set our budget for the next financial year.
Not only do plans for balancing the books need to be put in place, but also a further £18 million of savings need to be found, on top of those already agreed last year.
Council leader, Cllr Jagdish Sharma, said: “We managed to find £18 million of savings that the government required from the council last year, but have the challenging task of making the same amount of savings for 2012 as well.
“We have had to take a hard look at everything we do to see where we can make this saving while trying to minimise the impact on staff and services.
"Looking ahead, we have identified some key priorities for the council and want to know where you think we should be focussing our resources as part of setting our budget."
As well as focussing on the savings, we have set out priorities for the next three years:
a safe borough
bright futures for the borough’s children and young people
a thriving economy with more affordable homes
a clean, green borough
an active, healthy borough
help and support for our residents who need it most
an ambitious council which improves the lives of residents and works in a transparent and efficient way.
