Major bus priority and cycling scheme measures have been implemented on London Road between Syon Lane and Brent Lea and are nearing completion. We hope the remaining civils work, including the kerb-lines and new pedestrian islands will be completed in early August. Then the resurfacing of the length of carriageway from Syon Lane to Commerce Road will take place in late August or early September, and we will apply the line-marking and open the bus and cycle lanes for use.
We are now proposing to introduce an access-way and short term parking area on the south side of London Road just west of Brent Lea. We are seeking the views of local residents and business operators on the proposed access and parking measures.
There are now two options for this “forecourt” area:
Option 1: The area could be paved in the same new small pavers as used on the north side of London Road. The trees would be retained and a new bus shelter installed.
Option 2: A narrow vehicular access-way could be incorporated into the works. This would allow car drivers to access this area and park for a short time (maximum 30 minutes) to visit the shop. Under this option, there would still be adequate pedestrian space for bus passengers and general recreation and circulation.
The above proposals are shown in the Brent Lea plan (
PDF Help, size 546kb).
The proposed features are shown as bold black lines, with appropriate coloured infill, while existing features are shown in grey.
The Isleworth and Brentford Area Committee has given its support for Option 2, and a final decision will be decided August 15 2007, when the views of local residents are reported to the Syon Ward Members and Area Committee Chair. If this option is approved the works should be completed by mid September. If Option 2 is not supported, Option 1 will be implemented to the same timeframe.
