The official definition of social enterprise is “a business or service with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners”.
The social enterprise model is continuing to grow in importance and impact. It encompasses a wide range of organisations; from co-operatives and private limited companies to mutual societies.
We provide support to development organisations in the borough of Hounslow, in particular ensuring commissioning is accessible and social enterprises are able to compete fairly for contracts.
We work to break down the barriers in establishing social enterprise and presenting a proactive face to the sector.
On a practical level, we can offer support to local organisations in exploring social enterprise models, business planning, partnership development, and signposting.
If you're thinking of utilising a social enterprise model to look at potentially delivering council services, please download and read the document, Social Enterprises - a guide for voluntary and community sector groups, which offers valuable advice and an overview of the procedures we have put in place to assist you.
