Our achievements in 2009
The following events were held across the borough to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight:
Monday 23 February – Fairtrade wine-tasting followed by locally sourced food products at the Parish Centre, Brentford
Tuesday 24 February – Pancake Party - St. Paul’s Road, Brentford. Aimed at children up to age 11 it included games, a colouring competition, a quiz and of course... pancakes – with Fairtrade jam, chocolate spread and lemons!
Saturday 28 February – Chiswick Churches of Justice and Peace hosted a Fairtrade information and awareness raising stall at Sainsbury's in Chiswick
Sunday 1 March – Holy Communion Service with a sermon about Fairtrade at St. Paul’s Church, Brentford
Tuesday 3 March – Songs of Praise for Fairtrade – lunchtime service full of songs at St. Pauls Church, Brentford
Wednesday 4 March – Hounslow Fairtrade Teabreak, a special tasting session at the Café Parkside
Friday 6 March – Going Bananas in Open House! - a record-breaking banana eating bonanza across London at St. Paul’s Road, Brentford
Sunday 8 March – Holy Communion service with a sermon about Fairtrade at St. Faith’s Church, Brentford
Throughout Fairtrade Fortnight 2009 the Open House Café had a Fairtrade themed lunch menu which featured a selection of meals incorporating fairly traded ingredients as well as Fairtrade stall and display promoting variety of food products, crafts, Zaytoun olive oil, WoW bags
Autumn/winter 2009
Sunday 24 October – Hunger for One World event hosted by Hounslow Friends of Faith at the Paul Robeson Theatre. Speaker from Tate and Lyle gave a presentation on how changing their sugar to Fairtrade has benefited producers in the developing world as well as their business
Saturday 21 November – Music From the Faiths hosted by Hounslow Friends of Faith at Waterman’s Art Centre. Free Divine chocolate was given out to all attendees

The following events were held across the borough to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight:
Wednesday 27 February – Hounslow Fairtrade teabreak at Café Parkside in the Civic Centre
Friday 29 February – Fairtrade inspired songs of praise and lunch at St Paul's Church
Saturday 1 March 2008 – Traidcraft and Fairtrade information stall at Bridge Centre Café
Sunday 2 March – British Sikh Women’s Organisation host a Fairtrade tasting event at Hounslow Sikh Gurdwara
Thursday 6 March – Fairtrade producer talk followed by Fairtrade inspired Songs of Praise and Fairtrade lunch at St Paul's Church
Saturday 8 March – Fairtrade information stall hosted by Chiswick Churches for Justice and Peace at M&S at 236 High Road, Chiswick, W4 1PJ.
St Paul’s Church in Brentford hosted a Fairtrade inspired lunch everyday during Fairtrade Fortnight 2008.
Summer 2008
Information stands and tasting events were held at a number of events across the borough, including:
16 September - Chiswick Churches for Justice and Peace hosted a Fairtrade Wine Tasting event for local businesses to encourage them to stock Fairtrade products. Harriet Lamb CBE (Executive Director of the Fairtrade Foundation) gave a talk on ‘The Concept of Fairtrade’ and Ian Tilleard-Haines from Erhmanns Ltd gave an insight into the work of a Fairtrade Wine importer. The wine was provided by Erhmanns Ltd and canapés by Sam’s Brasserie, Chiswick. The event took place at St. Michaels and All Angels Parish Church.

Fairtrade Fortnight 26 February – 11 March
The following events were held across the borough to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight:
1 March: Fairtrade staff tasting event at Hounslow Civic Centre – coffee, chocolate, Geobars
2 March: Fairtrade producer talk at the Catholic Centre in Chiswick, this was followed by a Fairtrade tasting session
3 March: Fairtrade supermarket stand at Asda, Blenheim Road, Hounslow. The stand provided information on Fairtrade, free samples and goodies. Shoppers were able to enter a prize draw to win a Fairtrade hamper by completing the Fairtrade questionnaire.
7 March: Fairtrade staff tasting event at Hounslow Civic Centre – fruit juice and fruit platters
Summer 2007
Information stands and tasting events were held at a number of events across the borough, including:
9/10 June: Fairtrade and Traidcraft stall at the Bedfont Parks Festival/Green Days event
5 September: In Defence of Fairtrade seminar and tasting session (tea, coffee, wine, biscuits) organized by Chiswick Churches for Justice and Peace at St. Michaels and All Angels Parish Church.
Autumn/ winter 2007
Hounslow celebrated achieving Fairtrade borough status with the following events across the borough:
Sunday 18 November, at Hounslow Singh Sabha Sikh Gurdwara. Information day promoting Hounslow’s achievement in gaining Fairtrade borough status and informing residents what they can do to promote Fairtrade within the community and support producer organisations particularly in the third world.
Wednesday 21 November, at the Bridge Coffee Shop. Fairtrade in Hounslow information stall and tasting event.
Thursday 22 November, at St. Michaels and All Angels Parish Hall. Fairtrade in Hounslow and wine tasting event. With presentations from the Fairtrade steering group on achieving Fairtrade borough status and David Brown (Fairtrade/TraidCraft campaigner) providing a personal insight on Fairtrade campaign in third world producer countries.

Hounslow celebrated in style with a range of events across the borough! These included:
5 March: Fairtrade fun morning at SS. Michael and Martin’s Church Hounslow
8 March: Go Bananas of Fairtrade - a banana producer talk in Chiswick
9/16 March: Fairtrade coffee tasting and information session for Hounslow Council staff
10 March: Fairtrade shop launch at St Paul’s centre in Brentford
15 March: Banana producer talk at Southville Methodist Church in Feltham
18 March: Fairtrade coffee morning at St Lenoards Hall, Heston

Hounslow Council showed its ongoing commitment to Fairtrade by changing prodcuts. Fairtrade tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and chocolate bars are all served in meeting rooms, vending machines and in the cafe.

Information stands were held at a number of events across the borough, including the Hounslow Goat Festival and London Mela.
Hounslow Fairtrade steering group carried out a borough-wide survey to establish which retails and catering outlets were stocking Fairtrade. The results of the audit, the Fairtrade Directory can be downloaded on this page.

Chiswick Churches for Trade Justice held events to promote the idea of Fairtrade to the residents of Chiswick, including speeches by representatives of the Trade Justice movement, information sessions, and stalls at summer events.
