Other victims of domestic violence

Domestic violence is not perpetrated solely against women; victims and abusers alike can be male or female or in same-sex relationships. There are resources available for anyone who is a victim of domestic violence.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender victims

Broken Rainbow is the only organisation in the UK, which has been set up specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities experiencing domestic violence.

Remember that service providers should not treat the violence you are experiencing any differently from those in heterosexual relationships.

Male victims of domestic violence

Male survivors of domestic violence should have access to the same services as women and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. This includes, for example, support from the police (apart from refuges specifically for women).

There are some national organisations set up specifically to deal with male survivors of domestic violence. Unfortunately there are no specific agencies locally, but Victim Support can offer support and assistance.
