You are required to register under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964. For the purposes of registration, a scrap metal dealer is someone who has a store for scrap metal within the London Borough of Hounslow or, who although they do not have a store are based at an address within the borough.
An individual, partnership or company may register.
Scrap metal dealers are required to maintain detailed records of all scrap that they buy and sell. They are only permitted to have two books for the recording of transactions, one for the purchase and one for the sale of metals. There are specific requirements as to what information must be recorded in each book. The books must be kept for two years once they are full.
Registration must be on the form provided. There is no fee for registration. Each registration runs for three years.
