The Unit works closely with community groups and other agencies to help people who face difficulties in the labour market – for example because of language, lack of appropriate skills, caring responsibilities or disability - into work.
It currently has a contract with Careers Development Group (CDG) who offer basic skills and interview training where it is needed, and act as “job-brokers” with employers, placing unemployed people into sustainable jobs.
It leads a local strategic employment group, which advises the Local Strategic Partnership on employment issues.
It is working in the west of borough with Heathrow City Growth Partnership delivering a programme part funded by the London Development Agency.
