Haiti earthquake appeal

An appeal has been set up by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which is made up of 13 aid agencies, to help the people of Haiti, which has been devastated by a massive earthquake.

The earthquake is said to have affected up to three million people and has sparked a huge international aid operation.

The mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Paul Lynch said: "I am sure that many residents have already responded to the plight of the poor people of Haiti. It is shocking that people with so little should lose even the tiny amount they have. They need our help more than most as their country lacks the resilience to get recovery going. They are the poorest of the poor, and even a tiny contribution will make a difference."

Any Hounslow residents who want to make a donation can find out how at the DEC's website: www.dec.org.uk.
