Income Support is extra money to help people on a low income. It’s for people who don't have to sign on as unemployed.
Whether you qualify or not and how much you will get, depends on your circumstances.
You may be able to claim Income Support, if your under the Pension Credit qualifying age and one of the following applies to you:
your a single parent;
your incapable of work because of pregnancy; or
your pregnant and within 11 weeks of your due date (you can claim for this reason for up to 15 weeks after your baby is born).
In some cases you may be able to claim if you are on paternity or parental leave.
You will not be able to claim Income Support if you:
work 16 hours or more a week or your partner works 24 hours or more a week; or
have savings over £16,000.
Income Support is a means tested benefit and will be affected by most income that you or your partner have coming in. It can help with mortgage payments.
