Calen Disability Living Centre

A collaborative project of the Hounslow Association for the Blind and Hounslow Council.

The Calen Centre displays equipment for people who are blind or partially sighted and for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

We provide help for people who have a visual impairment or who are hard of hearing or deaf. We provide advice and information on site and can issue some small pieces of equipment.

We have a variety of daily living aids and low vision/hearing equipment available on display for you to try. We can demonstrate and order the right equipment for you.

The daily living aids include:

  • Magnifying glasses

  • Flashing doorbells

  • Talking watches and clocks

  • Baby alarms

  • Vibrating alarm clocks

  • Microwaves

  • Text phones

  • Telephones

  • Computer equipment

  • Smoke alarms

  • TV hearing equipment

  • Games

  • Signature guides

  • Radios

So come along to :

  • sample and use equipment;

  • take part in specialist computer training;

  • find out about social clubs and events; and

  • get information and advice for carers.

Whilst you will not be able to buy the equipment from the Calen Centre, lists where equipment can be bought and price guides can be provided.

We also provide a range of information about services and organisations for people with a disability or sensory impairment.

You can visit the centre by appointment on:

  • Tuesdays between 10.30-1pm for people with visual impairment and

  • Thursdays all day for people with hearing impairment.
