Hounslow Council

Handyperson scheme

The handyperson scheme is run by our care and repair team. The service is for homeowners who are 60 years of age or over and are resident in the London Borough of Hounslow.

Our handyperson will carry out those small jobs at your home that that large contractors may not wish to do. These could be:

  • minor adaptations

  • small items of plumbing or carpentry work

  • basic electrics such as changing plugs or fuses

  • fitting home security devices such as new locks making you more secure in your home

There are some jobs that the handyperson cannot do.  These include:

  • decorating

  • roof repairs

  • major electrical or gas works

  • gardening

  • any works above stepladder height

There is a charge for the handyperson service.  You will be asked to pay for any materials plus an hourly labour cost, which is presently £12.50 per hour. However, if you are in receipt of a means-tested benefit, i.e. Pension Credit or means tested council tax benefit, you will only have to pay for the  materials.  An estimated cost of the work will be discussed with you BEFORE you decide to go ahead.

Because it is a very popular service and is in great demand, you will only be allowed to use the service for a maximum of 6 hours in one year.
