Hounslow’s sustainability standard, known as the Green Standard, was developed with the help of a £10,000 grant from Defra.
Its primary purpose is to ensure that sustainability is embedded in Hounslow’s projects, plans and policies.
The Green Standard incorporates Hounslow LSP’s sustainability principles.
These are:
Hounslow’s people are actively engaged in the community.
Hounslow’s people are enabled and empowered to be responsible for their community.
Hounslow’s people understand and aspire to fulfil their civic responsibilities.
Hounslow has a strong leadership.
Hounslow’s people are and feel safe.
Hounslow Values diversity, promoting a strong, vibrant, united community.
Hounslow’s residents lead healthy lifestyles and have access to all resources and services.
All of Hounslow’s people are informed of and have access to all resources and services.
The life chances of Hounslow’s children and young people are improved through community support and provision of high levels of services.
Hounslow and its communities use resources wisely, striving to improve their quality and quantity and aim to live within their environmental limits.
Hounslow has a distinct, excellent public realm and buildings, which respond to changes such as climate change and peoples needs.
Hounslow people earn above average wages and spend it locally.
Hounslow is a place people want to live, stay work and play.
The standard works by providing a scoring system that rates the green credentials of the different initiatives. It aims to make it easier for the council and its partners to incorporate sustainability into any outcomes and targets proposed for inclusion in the LAA as well as other targets, plans and policies.
