The conservation and urban design service works together with the planning service to determine planning applications in conservation areas, applications for new development and applications for listed building consent across the whole borough.
The service develops conservation area character appraisals which help to guide development in sensitive areas and assists on urban design issues.
Listed buildings within the borough
Listed building consent is almost always needed for work to buildings of special architectural or historic interest, and the areas around them. To find out whether your building is listed as a “building of special historic or architectural interest” contact us.
Landscape character and assessment
Landscape character assessment identifies features or combinations of elements that contribute to the character of the landscape, thereby helping the special character and qualities of an area to be understood. This is a strong basis for good and sustainable design. Even in built-up areas, trees, hedges, forecourts and gardens of houses can play an important part in improving the quality of life for people and the natural environment.
