In partnership with the Metropolitan Police, we have implemented controlled drinking zones (CDZs) within the borough. CDZs are areas designated by us where public drinking is causing a nuisance or annoyance in a particular area.
In these areas, police have certain powers to help tackle such behaviour.
Police officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) can request people to stop drinking alcohol in the designated public places and ask to surrender their drink. If people refuse they can be fined up to £500.
Areas covered by a CDZ
Evidence suggests that there are problems in some parts of the borough. These problems are associated with the consumption of alcohol which leads on to nuisance, annoyance or disorder behaviour.
Future controlled drinking zones may be considered in the future if there is enough evidence to support alcohol related anti-social behaviour.

Does this mean I can’t drink in parks and open spaces in these areas?
This is not an outright ban; however, the police may use their powers when alcohol related anti-social behaviour is linked within the CDZ. The police would have the discretion whether or not to use their powers.
How will I know I'm in a CDZ?
Signs have been put up within the controlled drinking zones to inform local people about zones and what it means for them.
