Who is responsible for CCTV in Hounslow?

The Environmental Projects Development team is responsible for the management and maintenance of CCTV in Hounslow Town Centre and Feltham Town Centre. Other areas may be covered by CCTV that is managed by either the Police, Hounslow Homes or Social Services.

What does the Environmental Projects Development Team do?

The role of the Environmental Projects Development Team is to manage and provide a co-ordinated approach to some of the aspects of the activities of the Council that have a direct impact on the visual and physical quality of the streets in the Borough.

The team is responsible for urban design input and disability access advice in relation to Planning Applications and Development Briefs. In addition, the team is responsible for the design and implementation of a programme of environmental improvement schemes throughout the Borough, generating projects that can include re-paving works, new landscaping, improved seating and other ‘street furniture’. Schemes of improvement for people with disabilities and mobility issues, such as parking bays, dropped kerbs. Within the team the Council’s Disability Access Adviser has the leading responsibility for all matters relating to access for people with disabilities. This includes measures within the street scene and also for access improvements to publicly owned buildings.

The team manages the Sponsorship for new street trees in the Borough and also has a major role in bidding for external funding, regeneration and capital challenge bids for implementing and the management of the Town Centre CCTV Schemes.

Why does the Council provide CCTV Cameras in Hounslow Town Centre and Feltham Town Centre?

The purpose of CCTV is primarily to safeguard public safety by deterring crime and anti-social behaviour in town centres. The Council works in partnership with the Police to provide this service.

How can I find out if an incident has been captured on CCTV? Is there a charge for this service?

If you have suffered or witnessed a crime and wish to find out if it has been captured on CCTV, you can contact the Environmental Projects team who can check the tape and confirm that information exists. However, the Environmental Projects team will not be able to disclose any specific information or supply a copy of the tape due to the Data Protection Act. The Council has the right to charge for this initial enquiry to confirm that information exists. However, currently, the service is provided free.

The Environmental Protection team will endeavour to respond to this initial enquiry within 5 working days.

After you have confirmed that information exists, you will need to report the matter to the Police who, according to circumstances, will carry out an investigation. To report such matters to the Police, telephone 020 8572 1212.

If the matter proceeds to court and copies of the tape are required, then there will be a charge for this service.
