“Hounslow performs well, and is improving the services important to people,” according to the Audit Commission’s new council ratings.
The commission’s findings mean that the council achieved a three-star rating under the Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) in 2009.
Hounslow’s assessment highlights that:
‘Services for adults have been assessed as performing excellently, and services for children are performing well’
‘The council is on target to deliver the planned number of additional affordable homes for the area, and more homes have been installed with energy efficiency measures’
‘A greater number of people are using the local libraries, and investments in Hounslow's roads, street lighting and pavements are making roads safer ‘
‘A good range of schemes are in place for consulting with young people and encouraging their input and feedback’
‘Areas important to local people are showing improvement’
‘The council, together with other public service providers such as the NHS, police, fire, and voluntary and community services, is actively tackling some of the big issues such as crime and the fear of crime’
In May 2010 the new government announced that they would be abolishing CAA.
