Blind or partially sighted

If you find it difficult to manage at home and you have a sight problem, there are services that can help.

What do we do for visually impaired people?

We work in partnership with the Hounslow Association for the Blind and offer a service to adults with a visual impairment. We have knowledge and skills that can enable people to continue with many activities both in their in their own homes and in their community. We can also enable people to be trained to learn new skills. We can provide some specialist equipment to support people with a visual impairment or advise on where to purchase. We also have a range of specialist equipment on display at the Calen Centre.

This service includes:

  • developing skills in mobility such as travelling independently both indoors and outdoors

  • activities of daily living such as preparing hot drinks

  • talking books service

  • communications such as learning Braille, touch typing

  • advice on concessions such as freedom pass
