Cycle training

If your child is in school years 5, 6 or 7 and attends a school in the borough, they will be offered free cycle training. The training will take place in school time and in the school playground.

Urban Pedal Pros - level 1 is a fun cycling skills course which is held in the school playground away from road traffic. The training uses games and techniques to help young cyclists control their bikes safely, cycle with confidence and learn about the highway-code.

Please remember children that attend the training course should bring with them a roadworthy bicycle, wear a cycle helmet and be able to cycle without any help.

We strongly recommend all cyclists to wear a helmet as 75% of the injuries experienced are head injuries. If your child does not own a helmet and would like to attend the free Bikability cycle training course, you can borrow a helmet from the team. For safety reasons, we recommend a child should own their own helmet as it would fit them better.

Please ensure your child is supervised while cycling at this age, giving them the opportunity to practice new skills and show you what they can do.
