What is airTEXT?
airTEXT is a free service available for people who live or work in Hounslow and across London who suffer from asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, heart disease, angina or any other form of respiratory disease.
By accessing this service you will be able to take some simple steps to reduce the impact to your health on days when pollution levels are forecasted to be high.
How do I register?
You can register online by visiting: www.airtext.info alternatively you can download the registration form on the right.
How does it work?
When you register, you can choose to either receive the alerts by:
text message
voicemail on your home number
via email
You can also choose the time of day you receive these alerts from 6pm – 7pm on the evening before or 7am – 9am on the morning of a day when elevated air pollution is forecasted.
Air pollution levels are weather dependent. Pollution levels tend to rise on hot sunny days in the summer and cold still days in the winter. You will be sent a message for each day the pollution episode lasts (approximately 2-3 days). Once the messages stop it means that pollution levels are forecasted to be low again.
What should I do when I receive an alert?
By receiving one of these alerts you will be able to take some simple steps to help you reduce the impacts of pollution to your health. For example carrying your inhaler with you, avoiding outdoor activities on days when pollution levels are high, avoiding areas where pollution levels are high i.e. along congested streets etc. But remember do not panic, this service is designed to help you ensure that have any necessary medication at hand and to prepare you for your day ahead to reduce your exposure.
