Acorn training and lifeskills centre

The Acorn Training and Lifeskills Centre in Heston provides a wide range of learning and development opportunities for people who have learning disabilities, a physical or sensory disability or mental health difficulties.

The centre aims to provide high-quality activities that build upon your independence so that you feel confident and can play an active part in the community. Our work seeks to pass on skills and information that encourage you to realise your potential to live as independently as possible, for example, to develop relationships or to make getting a job a possibility.

To achieve this, there are a number of centre-based group activities such as computing classes run by Hounslow Adult Education, kitchen confidence and sexuality/relationships awareness sessions.

You are also encouraged to join opportunities in the wider community. These include work experience, courses at Richmond Adult Education College, a gardening project in Chiswick, and art projects based at Waterman’s in Brentford.

The training we provide at the centre is shaped by the activities you want to take part in and what you would like to get out of your time here. We will regularly ask you whether you are happy with what is on offer. This often leads to sessions changing and new activities being offered.

We have an experienced staff team who receive regular training to make sure they are equipped to provide you with the best possible opportunities and learning depending upon your interests and individual needs.

The centre is entirely on ground level and consists of four training rooms including a new computer suite and a kitchen which are all accessible for wheelchair users.

For more information on how to join either the Acorn Centre or any of our other resource centres, speak to your social worker or care manager or contact the adult access team to find out whether you are eligible.
